News and Events - CASA for Kids of East Texas is a non-profit organization that provides trained community volunteers to advocate for the abused and neglected children of Smith, Wood and Van Zandt Counties.

Called to Jury Duty?
People called to jury duty have the option to donate their payment to a handful of organizations who serve crime victims. CASA for Kids of East Texas was recently added to that list in Smith County after having been on the Van Zandt County list for more than a year. So, if you are called for jury service, please think about donating your payment. Also, when you know of family and friends who are going to the courthouse, please encourage them to check CASA on the donation form. These fees really add up and are used to cover CASA’s operating expenses.

CASA® programs provide in-depth training on issues of the court process, child development, abuse and neglect, cultural competency, advocacy and interviewing techniques, HIV and other public health topics, etc. You will hear from judges, attorneys, social workers and other professionals in the field. Programs also offer in-service training on many subjects.

The training curriculum is 32 hours. Half is completed in a web-based program and half is in a classroom setting.
